A. UKFN MESSAGES

SUBJECT: ERCOFTAC Osborne Reynolds Day 2020 

Due to the current COVID-19 emergency, the ERCOFTAC Osborne Reynolds Day
event will not take place this year. However, A MODIFIED FORM OF THE
COMPETITION WILL STILL GO AHEAD, and current PhD students and recent
graduates in fluid mechanics are invited to submit 3-page summaries of
their work: the three best entries will go forward to the 2020 Da Vinci
competition (https://www.ercoftac.org/events/da_vinci_competition/), to
be held in Italy in October, and along with the next six best entries
will participate in the 2021 Osborne Reynolds Day.

SUBMISSIONS IS FRIDAY 1ST MAY AT 17:00.

SUBJECT: UKFN Thesis Competition 2020 

This is a reminder that UKFN is once again holding a competition for the
best fluids thesis submitted in the UK during 2019, with a prize of £500
for the winner. Nominations are now being accepted at
competition at fluids.ac.uk, with a closing date of 30TH APRIL 2020. Full
details are given here [1].

SUBJECT: Fluid Mechanics Webinar Series 

If you're missing going to a weekly fluids seminar, we are pleased to
announce that a new series of fluid mechanics webinars is being
organised jointly by Leeds Institute for Fluid Dynamics, the Department
of Applied Mathematics & Theoretical Physics in Cambridge, the Journal
of Fluid Mechanics and UKFN. The first of these will take place at 16:00
BST on Friday 1st May, when Christophe Clanet (LadHyX) will talk about
'The physics of road and track cycling'. Details of how to access the
