SUBJECT: ERCOFTAC Autumn Festival; Funding Application deadline
DETAILS: The ERCOFTAC Autumn Festival 2022 and final of the 17th Da
Vinci Competition will take place in Lyon, France at Ecole Centrale de
Lyon over 6-7 October 2022. More information regarding the Festival is
available on the ERCOFTAC website [1]. 

The deadline for submitting application forms for ERCOFTAC events
funding and SIG general funding 2023 is approaching - TUESDAY, 27
SEPTEMBER 2022. Follow the links to download the required forms for
events funding [2] and SIG funding [3]. More information is available on
the ERCOFTAC website [4].

you are planning to be present personally in Lyon, France on 6-7 October

DATE: 17-21 July 2023
DETAILS: The 20th International Symposium on Flow Visualization will be
held at TU Delft in the Netherlands in 2023. The symposium will be
chaired by Fulvio Scarano. Despite the name of the symposium, the scope
covers both experimental and numerical techniques, from imaging to
quantitative data analysis, and from fundamental to applicable fluid

scientists in academia & industry

DETAILS: Formulation scientists combine fluid mechanics, soft matter
physics and chemistry to generate valuable products from raw materials.
Formative Formulation 3 is a conference and networking event for EARLY
CAREER formulation scientists. It is a platform for sharing scientific
work and developing your professional network. The meeting will be held

SUBJECT: Short course (online) on Environmental Fluid Mechanics
DATE: Between 23 September and 1 November 2022
DETAILS: Prof Herbert Huppert from the University of Cambridge will be
giving a 10-lecture course, supported by the Chinese government, on
Environmental Fluid Mechanics, via Zoom. The sessions will run broadly
as follows. 

 	* The Navier Stokes equations and related simplifications [0.5
sessions]
 	* Gravity currents -- flowing at either low or high Reynolds numbers

 	* Flows in porous media [1]
 	* The weather, the development of our understanding leading to climate
change [1.5]
 	* Surface waves on the ocean, their interaction with coral layers and
a new suggestion of how to defend against tsunamis [1.5]
 	* Granular flows [2]
 	* Elastic effects and fracking [2]

The 10 sessions are on 23, 27 & 30 Sep, 11, 14, 18, 21, 25 & 28 Oct, and
1 Nov, all at 16:00-17:00 Beijing time.

SUBJECT: Winter School 'Mathematical theory and applications of multiple
wave scattering'
DATE: 9-13 January 2023
DETAILS: The Winter School aims to engage early career researchers
(research students and above) in the MWS programme. It will feature a
series of introductory lectures from prominent experts in the field of
multiple wave scattering, which will appeal to a broad span of
researchers, including engineers, physicists and mathematicians. There
will also be guest lectures from end-users/industry and group research
activities. Funding is available for those most in need. Deadline for
applications is 09/09/2022. Full details, including how to apply, may be

DETAILS: Raffaella Ocone from Heriot-Watt University and Paola Lettieri
and Marc-Olivier Coppens from UCL are organising the Fluidization XVII
conference, often considered the leading conference on fluidization,
from fundamentals to industrial applications. This is the first time in
a very long time that it will be organised in the UK, see

was held pre-pandemic, in China in 2019
