FROM: Nick Daish, NFFDy Hub, 19/01/2023
SUBJECT: NFFDy Summer Programme 2023 on 'Data in Fluids' - UPDATE
DETAILS: A Summer Programme on the theme 'Data in Fluids' will take
place in Cambridge from 10 July to 18 August 2023, organised as part of
the National Fellowships in Fluid Dynamics scheme (NFFDy). There are
places available to join the NFFDY fellows on the Programme and work on
a short, intensive research project, which may either be one proposed by
you or one that has already been proposed.

If you might be interested, please read the details below and visit the
Summer Programme padlet [1]. The projects available so far are outlined
on the Proposals padlet [2].

Who can apply?

Early-career researchers, from recently-graduated PhDs to early-career
lecturers or assistant professors, but not PhD students, working in a UK
institution eligible for UKRI funding.

How to apply?

NB: YOU CAN STILL APPLY TO JOIN THE SP AND PROPOSE A NEW PROJECT/REQUEST
TO JOIN AN EXISTING PROJECT AFTER THE EXPRESSION OF INTEREST DATE
20/1/2023, OR EVEN AFTER THE BROKERAGE EVENTS ON 23/1/2023, 26/1/2023,
BUT WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU REGISTER YOUR INTEREST AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE,
AS THIS WILL ENABLE US TO GIVE YOU AND YOUR APPLICATION THE MAXIMUM
AMOUNT OF SUPPORT.

_Expression of interest:_

If you might be interested in attending, please email Nick Daish
(ncd1 at cam.ac.uk) by 20/1/2023 with the following details:

 	* name
 	* institution
 	* current research area
 	* which project you would like to work on, either one already on the
Proposals padlet [2] or a new one (give general area)

We welcome applications that propose a new project.

_Brokerage events:_

There will be two optional Zoom brokerage events, where project ideas
can be discussed in person, in small breakout rooms, at 14:00-16:00 on
23/1/2023 & 26/1/2023. The links to join the meetings are as follows:

NFFDy Summer Programme Brokerage #1
Monday 23rd January 2023, 14:00-16:00
Join Zoom meeting here [3].

NFFDy Summer Programme Brokerage #2
Thursday 26th January 2023, 14:00 - 16:00
Join Zoom meeting here [4].

_Proposal submission:_
Outline proposals are displayed on a separate padlet [2]. The NFFDy
fellows have proposed some projects, which are guaranteed to be
selected. Applicants can request to join one of these, in which case we
will put them in touch with the project investigators, or they can
propose a new project themselves. In the latter case, they should
outline their project on the Proposals padlet.

For all projects, a detailed proposal is required by 14/2/2023
containing:

 	* project title
 	* a summary of the project, how it relates to the theme 'Data in
Fluids' and the proposed activities during the Summer Programme (up to
500 words);
 	* the applicants and the skills they bring to the project, both
technical and other, and how this team is going to work together in a
new way (up to 500 words);
 	* the data that will be used in the project, and whether it will be
generated before or during the project, or both (up to 200 words).

The new projects will be ranked by a panel and selected to fill the
remaining available places by 28/2/2023.

Applicants are encouraged to discuss application with their PI, if
applicable, before they do so.

What financial support is available?
Rooms with self-catering facilities have been reserved in college
accommodation for the duration of the programme. The NFFDy Hub will
provide 75% of costs for this accommodation. Applicants must provide the
remainder, along with their travel and subsistence costs. We estimate
these together will be in the region of £1,000.
